Most of you know me as a dog portraitist, but several vets have asked me to offer horse portraits, too. I wanted to start my horse portraiture with someone really special. Living as I do in the Philadelphia area, I was captivated, like so many of us, by our hometown boy, Barbaro...first as a champion racehorse, and then as a courageous fighter against laminitis. When it became obvious that, for his own sake, Barbaro's inspiring life needed to end, I was surprised at how much it touched my heart. I knew then that Barbaro would be my first equine portrait.
Then came the search for a photo to use as a reference. I am honored that Barbaro's photographer, photojournalist Sabina Louise Pierce - www.sabinalouisepierce.com , granted me permission to use her outstanding photos as my reference. So, here, thanks to Sabina Louise Pierce and of course, Barbaro...is my portrait of him.
